Texas Well Water Testing Labs

Frequently asked questions

How often should I test my well in Texas?

Test for bacteria and nitrate at least once a year, and after flooding or any work on the well. Run a broader panel every few years or when you buy a home.

How much does well water testing cost?

The Texas Water Development Board says costs run from about $20 for a basic bacteria test up to about $400 for a full drinking-water analysis. Ask each lab for its current prices.

Can I get my well tested for free in Texas?

Some groundwater conservation districts test free or at reduced cost, and Texas A&M AgriLife holds periodic well-screening events. Check the TWDB page.

Do all listed labs accept private well samples?

Not necessarily. The list comes from TCEQ's table of labs accredited for public water systems. Call to confirm a lab accepts private-well samples and which tests it runs.

Is this site run by TCEQ or a lab?

No. This is an independent directory built from public data. Labs don't pay to be listed.

What do the tags on each listing mean?

They show what TCEQ lists each lab as analyzing: bacteria (microbial), lead & copper, and water quality parameters.

How do I report a wrong listing?

Use the correction form and include a link to an official source.
